Tonna Lucille (Hagan) Herbst, a lifelong resident of Brush, CO, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at the age of ninety years old.  Tonna was born on December 29, 1930, near Snyder, CO and was raised by her mother Gladys Stickley and her stepfather, Ray Stickley.

Tonna married John Herbst on December 15, 1947, and they were married for 48 years before John passed away.  Together they raised 5 children.  Tonna attended the Brush Church of the Nazarene.

Tonna was shy and quiet but she had a quick wit and sense of humor.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, and volunteering.  In later years she loved reading and  working on jigsaw puzzles.  She especially enjoyed being a member of The Calico Quilters, where she spent many hours quilting and visiting with friends.  Many of her crocheted items and quilts were entered in the Morgan County Fair, with several receiving high honors.  Tonna's friendship with her best friend, Dorothy Jean Leis, began in the fall of 1944 when Tonna was starting eighth grade and Dorothy Jean the ninth grade.  They shared many milestones over their seventy-seven year friendship:  attending a new school, dating, marriage, raising families, quilting, and widowhood.

Tonna was preceded in death by her husband, John Herbst; parents Gladys and Ray Stickley; brother Marvin and his wife Georgianne Stickley; sister Verna Hall and son-in-law, Wayne Ostrander.  Surviving family include her brother Tom (Sybal) Hagan; 5 children, Clarice Ostrander, John (Fe) Herbst, Debra (Darrell) Tomky, Terry (Michelle) Herbst and Mark (Kim) Herbst; grandchildren Wayne (Jill) Ostrander, Dale Ostrander, Paul (Michelle) Herbst, Lisa (Scott) Lee, Nicole Tomky, Darci (Imer) Rodriguez, Jami (Robbie) Furrow, Tyler (Jessica) Herbst, Corinne Herbst, and Camille Herbst; and many great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021, at 10:30 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush.  Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery.
