Obituary

Troy M. Cowen, 102, long Fort Morgan area resident, passed away September 21, 2006 at the Valley View Villa Nursing Home in Fort Morgan. He was born August 26, 1904, in Hopkins, MO, to Manford & Mary Cowen. The Cowen family moved to Fort Morgan in 1918. Troy graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1923. On May 1, 1927, he married Mary House in Fort Morgan. Prior to retirement, Troy worked as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service. He was the oldest, living mail carrier in the United States. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed spending time at his mountain cabin, remodeling / rebuilding houses, tinkering with automobiles, and traveling. Survivors include his children, Donald of Chesapeake, VA, Marilyn Fishel of Phoenix, AZ, Howard of Nelson, British Columbia, Canada, Elaine Windsheimer and Jim both of Fort Morgan, Winifred Waldron of Deer Lodge, MT, and Chuck of Wellington, CO; 22 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren and great - great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, 1 son, Duane, 1 daughter, Barbara Atwood, 1 grandson, Kelly Fishel; 2 sisters, Vancie Churchill, and Austie (Betty) Robison; 5 brothers, Harvey, Ernest, Harry, Glen, and Leland, and his parents. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 26, at 10:30 AM at the United Presbyterian Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary Chapel on Monday from 2 - 5 PM. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Beehive Assisted Living Center or to Valley View Villa Nursing Home c/o Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary.
