Vera V. Sumner, 91, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009, at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. She was born May 31, 1918, in Dundy County, KS, to Alfred & Susieanne Amsberry. On June 10, 1936, Vera married Clayton R. Sumner in St. Francis, KS. The Sumner family moved to Brush in 1950. Vera worked as a nurse's aid and later as a seamstress at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center for 36 years. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include 2 sons, Darrell Sumner, and his wife, Jeanette; and Terrell Sumner, and his wife, Sandy, all of Brush; 2 sisters, Dorothy Hammers of Englewood, CO, and Darlene Brubaker of Bird City, KS; and 1 brother, Lee Amsberry, of Bird City, KS; 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, 6 brothers, 2 sisters, and her parents. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at 11:00 AM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 603 Custer Street in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Brush on Tuesday from 3 – 5 PM.
