Vera
Washburn
Jun 30, 1924 — Mar 10, 2017
Vera Lois Washburn, 92, of Log Lane, passed away early Friday morning, March 10, 2017 at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush after an extended illness.
She was born north of Fort Morgan on June 30, 1924 to Robert & Mable (Toyne) Neal. Vera married George Washburn on August 3, 1939. Together they raised a family of nine children which didn't include the many "adopted" children they often welcomed into their home throughout the years.
Vera worked at the Fort Morgan Hospital as a CNA for nearly 20 before working at Valley View Villa in Fort Morgan, also for another near 20 years before retiring. Vera enjoyed giving care, not only to her patients at work but to anyone she came in contact with. She never hesitated to help someone in need.
Vera enjoyed dancing, sewing, fishing and hunting, and going camping. Perhaps what brought her the most joy was the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by six children and their spouses, Evelyn & Vernon Cooksey of Roggen, Shirli & Gordon Timmons and Melvin & Betty Washburn of Brush, Kay & Peter Guerin of Spring Grove, IL, Bonnie & Terry Reddick of Hillrose, and Vernetta Washburn of Colorado Springs, 52 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren with 5 more arriving soon. Vera is also survived by her significant other, Bert Brown of Log Lane; Bert's daughter and her spouse, Teresa & David Hubbard of Arkansas; and Bert's brother, Don Brown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Washburn; her parents, Robert & Mable Neal; two daughters, Verna Washburn and Patricia Massa; her son, Lyle Washburn; her sister, Vernetta Neal; her brother, Forrest Neal; Bert's brothers, Michael Brown and Kyle Brown; and Bert's parents, Dave & Veacheal Brown.
Visitation will be at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan on Tuesday, March 14th from 5 – 8 PM.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 15th at the Sanctuary, 14587 Hwy. 34, Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan.
Memorial donations may be made to the Vera Washburn Memorial and sent to Heer Mortuary, 225 E. Platte Ave., Fort Morgan, CO
