Obituary

Vernon "Bud" Headley, 84, of Brush, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013, at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush. He was born May 29, 1929, on the family ranch near Pawnee Pass in the Stoneham - Willard, CO area, to Amos Edgar & Grace Maude (Evans) Headley. Bud grew up in the Stoneham, Willard & Snyder-Hillrose communities, striking out on his own at a very young age. After bouncing around, testing out job opportunities and finding adventures, Bud joined the U.S. Navy in January, 1951. He served aboard the USS Corregidor, along with his brother Galen, until being honorably discharged in October, 1954. He was proud to be a veteran of the Korean War. Upon returning home from his military service, Bud ran a gas station in Sterling before beginning a long career in the oilfield and had many stories to share about the DJ Basin. Bud married Marvis Ann Kirby in the spring of 1956. They set up their home in Fort Morgan for a few years, then returned to bachelorhood in Brush for many years while working in the oilfield and later owning and operating his own lawn service business. He moved to Bluff, UT in 1996 where he enjoyed retirement, before returning to Brush in September, 2012, for health reasons. Bud was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3551 and the Moose Lodge. He is survived by his son, Lonnie Headley of Laporte, CO; brother, Galen Headley of Bluff, UT, and step-sister Carol (Don) McIsaac of Rye, CO; nephews and nieces, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
