Obituary

Vernon Edwin May, 88, longtime Fort Morgan resident, passed away January 21, 2017 at East Morgan County Hospital.  He was born September 1, 1928 in Lamar, CO to Reinhard and Pauline (Scheidt) May.

Vernon enlisted in the United States Army in January 1953 and was honorably discharged in October 1954. He was a lifetime member of VFW post #2551. After the passing of his first wife Edvina Esther (Lebsock) May in July 1985, he married Linda Mueller on December 5, 1987 in Las Vegas, NV.  He spent his working years farming, but in his free time enjoyed listening to old country music, and polka music, especially the Polka Nuts.  His enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Linda May; one daughter, Linda Baessler; one grandson, Lyle Baessler; three stepchildren, Sylvia Abbott of Greeley, Tim Dennis of Highlands Ranch and Tom Dennis of Frederick; one sister Alma Zarbock of Fort Morgan; and eight step grandchildren.

Vernon was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Baumgartner; one brother, Richard May and his parents.

A funeral service will be Thursday, January, 26, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 AM.  Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
