Obituary

Victor Eugene Hanson passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 8, 2015, in the Hospice of Northern Colorado inpatient unit at NCMC in Greeley, Colorado at the "young" age of 91. Vic was born in Sterling, Colorado, on March 8, 1924, to Martin and Ada Helen Hanson. He grew up on their family farm and attended school in New Raymer, graduating with the class of 1942. Vic attempted to sign up for the armed services but was rejected due to his childhood hearing losses. On June 24, 1951, Vic married his high school sweetheart, Beth Arlene Hunter, in Brighton, Colorado. While continuing to farm and ranch, he also worked nights at the Great Western Sugar Company in both Eaton and Fort Morgan for many years. In August, 1961, the family moved to Fort Morgan so Beth would be closer to her job and the children could attend school there. Vic continued to commute to New Raymer to work the family farm until retiring in 1989. After 53 years of marriage, Beth died suddenly in July, 2004. Vic continued to live in Fort Morgan enjoying his trips to the farm, fixing and "puttering" with things around the house and doing yard work until moving to The Bridge Assisted Living in Greeley in August, 2010. Vic took extreme pride in his family and worked many long hours to provide for them. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Fort Morgan, and life member of the Fort Morgan Elks Lodge #1143, receiving the Elk of the Year Award in 1969. Vic is survived by his daughter, Vickie and son-in-law Jim, and his son Greg. Grandchildren are Erich (Brandee) Green, Kyle (Amy) Bennett, and Breanna Hanson; his six great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Ariyana, Seth, Kiera, Brynn, and Lucas. He is also survived by his dear, close friend, Donna Bolingbroke, as well as nieces, nephews, and his extended family at the Bridge who were so good to him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beth, brother, Raymond, sisters, Frances Starkey, Evelyn Linsenmaier, and Florence Singleton Silvas, and his parents, Martin "Mike" and Ada Helen Hanson. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the Heer Mortuary Chapel, 225 E. Platte Avenue in Fort Morgan, CO, with interment to follow in Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Denver Rescue Mission, Hospice of North Colorado, or the Fort Morgan Elks Lodge #1143 all in c/o the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan.
