Obituary

Ft. Morgan, CO – Vincent "Vince" Ries, 23, formerly of Stickney, went to his heavenly home Friday, May 6 in a kayak accident. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 14 at 10:00 am at the Stickney High School Gymnasium. Visitation will be Friday, May 13 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at the Stickney High School Gymnasium. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Stickney.

Vince was born February 1, 1993 to Kevin and Sheila (DeHaai) Ries in Mitchell, SD. He was baptized into the Christian faith at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell and confirmed at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Armour, SD. He attended Stickney High School in Stickney, SD, graduating in 2011. While in high school, Vince was active in drama and music, was voted prom king and worked at Steve's Welding. He attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD where he graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and a minor in Range Science. While in college, he also worked for the National Forest Service and fought numerous forest fires. He was united in marriage to Ivory Niewenhuis on May 30, 2015 at the Christian Reformed Church in Corsica, SD. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Fort Morgan, CO where Vince worked for Cargill as supervisor of offal. He was a devout Christian who loved cattle and was their biggest advocate. He enjoyed Nascar and the outdoors, especially snowmobiling, camping and hiking.

Grateful for having shared his life are wife, Ivory of Fort Morgan; his father, Kevin of White Lake, SD and his special friend, Tina Spielmann of Brandon, SD; grandparents: Sylvan and Naydene DeHaai of Aurora Center, SD and Vince and Shirley Ries of White Lake; in-laws, Dennis and Jackie Niewenhuis of Corsica; grandparents-in-law: Ken and Juella Niewenhuis of Corsica and Cornie and Jean Schelling of Corsica; a brother-in-law, Brandon (Kara) Niewenhuis of Des Moines, IA; 2 sisters-in-law: Amanda (Jason) VanDriessen of Haywarden, IA and Valarie (Ian) Kuipers of Zeeland, MI; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sheila and a grandmother, Janice.
