Viola Lillian Voss Eckert, 89, of Fort Morgan, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at Valley View Villa. She was born in Fort Morgan on March 16, 1917, to Albert and Mary Wiehe Voss. Viola graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1935 and married Martin Eckert on December 25th, of that year. They recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. Viola's passion in life was music. She became the organist at Zion Lutheran Church at age 14. In 1957 she became the organist for Trinity Lutheran Church and continued until 1991 when ill health forced her to retire. In addition, she gave private piano and organ lessons for 50 years. At the height of her teaching career, she would give over 50 lessons per week. All of these lessons led to wonderful recitals with many selections for piano with 4 hands, two pianos with 8 hands and two pianos, 8 hands and organ. She was a life member of the Colorado State Music Teachers Association and an active member of the American College of Musicians. Other memberships included the Business and Professional Women, Platte Avenue Social Hour, and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Viola is preceded in death by her mother and father, her son-in-law, and granddaughter. She is survived by her loving husband, Martin, son Richard of Anchorage, AK, daughter Patricia Ritschel of Victorville Ca. And more recently Fort Morgan, four grandchildren, twleve great grand children and one great great grand child. A viewing will take place at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer on Friday, February 23rd, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with funeral services following at 12:00 noon. Grave side services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The Heer & Jollife Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
