Obituary

Wayne Heitschmidt, 74, of Fort Morgan, passed away early Sunday, June 20, 2010, after a short illness, at the North Colorado Medical Center inpatient hospice unit. He was born June 16, 1936, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Walter & Verna (Joeken) Heitschmidt. In January 1951, the Heitschmidt family bought a farm near Brighton, CO. In 1954, Wayne graduated from Brighton High School and then served in the US Army for 3 years. On December 21, 1963, Wayne married Marian Holt. They started their family and in 1974, they moved to Fort Morgan where they started a dairy operation. Later, Wayne went to work for Western Sugar Company where he worked for 13 years, working campaign, and worked as night watchman for the factory. During his 13 years with Western Sugar Company he never missed a day of work. Wayne's interests were his family, farming, bowling, watching sports on television, and entertainment and he enjoyed trips to Central City, CO. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Marian, of Fort Morgan; 2 sons, Keven of Vancouver, WA; and Brian of Fort Morgan; 2 brothers, Allen of Brighton, and Edwin of Bunnell, FL; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at 10:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. The service will conclude at the church. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to the Heer & Dahl Mortuaries & Crematory. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Blessings in a BackPak Food Program for Fort Morgan School Students c/o Heer & Dahl Mortuaries.
