Bob Everett passed away at the age of 93 on Saturday, August 29th at Longmont United Common Spirit Hospital. He was born in Denver, Colorado on February 25, 1933, to Fred and Ruth (Williams) Everett. The family lived in north and northeast Denver, a middle-class neighborhood, where he attended Adams Street Elementary School, Cole Junior High School, and East High School. Contact with the many different ethnic groups attending Cole and East at that time was an invaluable experience for him and was helpful throughout his life.

A deep interest in athletics was fostered by his father’s interest in athletics, and the two spent hours playing catch in the front yard. An interest in art also began early in his life when his father brought home scratch paper from work. Drawing airplanes was his first love. Bob was also known for his sense of humor, much of which came from his mother who loved playing practical jokes.

After graduating from East High in 1951, Bob began college at Colorado State College of Education (presently UNC), with a major in Business Education and minored in fine arts and air science (Air Force ROTC). He was an active charter member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and worked a variety of jobs, such as: college library, grounds keeper, Weld County Hospital, drama department secretary, sign painting, railroad icehouse, and U.S. Post Office. These jobs developed work habits that lasted throughout his life.

Bob met his wife-to-be, Patty Foster, late in his freshman year. They were married in the summer of 1954 and recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Upon college graduation, Bob entered the U.S. Air Force in August of 1955. He went to navigation school in Harlingen, TX, where he earned his wings. Then he went to radar intercept schools in Texas and Georgia, and finally to an intercept squadron at Paine AFB in Everett, WA.

He was honorably discharged in 1958 and moved to Ft. Morgan to seek a teaching position. While teaching at Ft. Morgan Junior High School, he was asked to develop a K-12 art program for the schools. Besides teaching for 30 years and substituting another 30 years, Bob also coached football, basketball, and baseball. His love of sports led to his becoming the voice of KFTM, broadcasting local high school games, giving a weekday morning sports report, and hosting a Saturday call-in show.

Bob’s faith was central to his life, growing up in an Evangelical United Brethren church in east Denver, and becoming an active member of Ft. Morgan United Presbyterian Church, where he served as the pastor’s assistant, deacon, elder, and adult Sunday school teacher. Much of Bob’s artwork and signage can still be found around the church and in the community. He was generous with his creative, homemade gifts for friends and family.

Bob was preceded by his parents, his brother, Ted, and grandson, Kevin Ford. He is survived by his wife, Patty, and his children, Chris (Ron) Brown; Jeffrey Everett; Karen (Darin) Richards; and Sharon (Al) Strauss. He has nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, as well as an extended family of much-loved in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A service will be held Friday, September 11, at 10:00 a.m. at Ft. Morgan United Presbyterian Church, 1300 E. Riverview Ave. It will also be livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, found at https://upfmchurch.com/
