Wayne E. Ford, 88, longtime Brush area resident, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Saturday, May 1, 2021, at his home following a courageous battle with chronic heart failure. He was born February 14, 1933, in Sterling, CO to Clinton & Bessie Ford.
Wayne graduated from Brush High School in 1952. In 1953 he joined the US Army. Upon his honorable discharge, due to the death of his father, Wayne returned to Brush. On March 28, 1956, he married Joyce Edson, also of Brush, in Raton, NM. Wayne enjoyed multiple team sports such as the Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, and the Colorado Rockies. He was one of the best family coaches, as he instructed his grandson to be elite in the individual sports of golf and bowling. Wayne was admitted to the Brush Bowling Hall of Fame in 1986.
Along with is wife, Joyce, they traveled the world after his retirement from Texaco in 1992. They especially enjoyed the time spent with their camping club, the Trail Riders. Wayne even hand built the first camper they had. Almost every trip was planned around fishing, one of Wayne's top priorities and he exhibited expertise when it came to landing the big one.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ada Joyce; 2 children Steven (Ellen) Ford of Johnstown, CO and Gailene (Pat) Dahlinger of Brush; 3 grandchildren, Jason (Katherine) Dahlinger, Stephani (Jason) Robinett, and Shane Dahlinger; and 5 great grandchildren Levee, Kiera, Brooklyn, Braxton and Mia. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers, 4 sisters, and his parents.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 10, 2021, at 2:00 PM at the Brush High School Auditorium. The service will conclude at the school. Military honors by the US Army & the Brush American Legion / VFW honor guard, will follow the service. The Heer Mortuary & Crematory is entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Those attending are asked to wear whatever personal protective equipment they are most comfortable wearing.
