Obituary

Wayne W. Small, 90, life resident of Brush, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center.  He was born September 18, 1930, in Brush to Wallace & Florence Small.

Wayne graduated from Brush High School in 1948.  As a junior in high school, he enlisted in the US Army National Guard based at the Brush Armory.  In September of 1950, he was mobilized with the 928 th Motor Ambulance Company to Camp Polk, Louisiana for deployment overseas during the Korean War.  His unit was never called to deploy.

On August 24, 1950, Wayne married Marilyn Bruce of Snyder, CO.  Wayne was a self-employed electrician and carried his master license until he retired at the age of 80.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion Sagebrush Post, served as a volunteer on the Brush Fire Department for 28 years, was a former member of the Brush Jaycees and served as a co-chairman for the Brush Rodeo.  He served as director for the Brush Chamber of Commerce and was the Grand Marshall for the 2014 Brush Rodeo Parade.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.  He especially enjoyed helping people.  His favorite time was spent with his family.

Survivors include his wife of over 70 years, Marilyn; 1 daughter, Susan Balderston and 1 son, Kirk Small, and his son-in-law, Barry Lebsock; 7 grandchildren, Natosha, Nicole, BJ, Tyson, Holly, Heather, & Kristopher and 13 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Sheryl Small–Lebsock, his son-in-law David Balderston; 3 sisters Emma, Waldroyn and Florine, and his parents.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at 11:00 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush.  Inurnment will follow at the Brush Memorial Cemetery Columbarium.  Fire Department Honors by the Brush Volunteer Fire Department and Military honors by the US Army Honor Guard, the American Legion/VFW Honor Guard and the Patriot Guard will also be held at the Brush Memorial Cemetery Columbarium.  Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Brush Volunteer Fire Department for the construction of the memorial they are building at the Brush fire station.
