William "Bill" Robert Hellyer, 92, of Fort Morgan went home to our Lord October 11, 2024. The viewing will be held at Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan, Colorado on October 16, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 17, at Snyder Bible Church in
Snyder, Colorado with Dan Leis ministering. Burial will be at Brush Memorial Cemetery at 2 p.m.
Bill was born on April 29, 1932, at his home in Kersey, Colorado, to Richard Senior and Mary Hellyer. Bill was the youngest of five children born to Richard and Mary. He was raised on a farm in Snyder, Colorado. He grew up with a love for animals, always having a soft spot for them and
farm life. Growing up, he spent many hours riding horses and playing with his siblings.
Bill graduated from Snyder High School in 1951. He was drafted into the Air Force and stationed at Salida, Kansas in 1953. He spent time in Iceland, Greenland and Germany during the Korean War until 1957 when he was officially discharged. On July 14, 1974, Bill married Mary Ellen Blake of Brush, Colorado. They settled in Fort Morgan, Colorado in 1976.
Bill was employed by the City of Fort Morgan as a grounds technician from 1970 until the year 2000. He helped with the upkeep of the cemetery mowing, digging grave sites, and irrigating. William spent many weeknights and weekends rooting for the Denver Broncos, Rockies and
Nuggets. He enjoyed watching westerns and playing card games. He especially loved his many visits from his siblings, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ellen; stepdaughter Lula Lorenzini and husband Jim of Brush and grandchildren Jamey and wife Monica of Fort Morgan and Jason and wife Brianna of Wray; great grandchildren Alyssa Kage and Husband Nate of Fort Morgan, Kayden of Evans, Jayce of Fort Collins, Blakley and Jolie of Wray; step son, Andy Blake and wife Judy of Brush and grandchildren Jill of Fort Collins and Ryan of Denver. He is survived by one sister, Bonnie Trout of Snyder and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Richard Hellyer Senior and Mary, brothers and sister George, Richard and Vera and many friends.
