\ William "Everett" Segelke, 86, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2015, on his ranch near Hillrose. He was born July 5, 1928, in Brush to F. W. "Bill & Lusine (Friedrichs) Segelke. Everett attended and graduated from Roosevelt School near Merino, CO. After graduation he spent 2 years serving in the US Army stationed in Germany. Shortly after his discharge, Everett met Ruth Helen Wiebe at a square dance in Sterling, CO on April 24, 1954. They were married on the same date one year later They were married almost 60 happy years. The spent those years raising thir family and ranching the same land that Everett spent his entire life on. Everett is survived by his wife, Ruth; three daughters, Kim (Vic) Vondy of Sterling, CO, Arlene (Darrell) Smith of Yuma, CO, Naomi (Pat) James of Carr, CO; 2 sons, Chris of Brush and Glen of Atwood, CO; six grandchildren, Dave (Brenda) Vondy of Fort Collins, CO; Meredith (Adam) Potgieter of Brush, Owen, Everett and Henry Devlin of Terry, MT, and Sophie Segelke of Fort Morgan; and four great grandchildren, Faith, Brody, Brock, and Quinly Vondy. He is also survived by three brothers, Francis (Gwendolyn) Segelke of Brush; Burlie (Shirley) Segelke of Hillrose, CO and Wesley (Marty) Segelke of Englewood, CO and many esteemed nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Susan. Everett's faith was very important to him, raising his family to share his love of God. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church until it combined with Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan and name was changed to Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church. He served as an elder for many years. Everett was an expert fence builder, excelling at making them straight and tight. He was a well known horseman and for years had a band of mares and a band of mammoth donkeys. He also raised and sold many colts and mules. He had many friends and customers far and wide and enjoyed those relationships. He was very social and loved to visit. He loved to attend horse auctions across the country and enjoyed taking his family along. He always enjoyed draft horses and working teams of horses. He fondly recalled cultivating corn with a team of horses on his 9th birthday. Everett loved all type of livestock work. He was able to spend his lifetime doing what he loved - building fence just moments before his passing. He and Ruth loved music, especially attending bluegrass festivals with friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 28, at 10:30 AM at the Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church, 627 Ensign Street in Fort Morgan. Interment will be in the Merino Cemetery.
