A beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, William (Bill) Levey Walkup passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2014. Bill was born in Micawber, Oklahoma on July 2, 1928 to Benjamin and Martha Walkup. He was the second of ten children. The family soon relocated to Watsonville, California. After completing his education, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1947. He served proudly for eight years, including tours of Scotland and French Morocco. While in the service Bill was stationed in Grand Prairie, Texas where he met and married his loving wife, Sylvia (Meehan) Walkup. In 1955 Bill completed his service and returned home. In the early 1960's, Bill and Sylvia relocated to Boulder, Colorado where Bill began his long career with Public Service Company (Xcel Energy). During this time, Bill and Sylvia welcomed three children into their family; Timothy, Sheila and David. In 1979, Bill continued his employment with Public Service Company at Pawnee Power Plant in Brush, Colorado where he retired a number of years later. Bill had a love for nature, and especially enjoyed exploring the untouched beauty of the Colorado mountains where he and his family enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking. After retirement, Bill and Sylvia broadened their travels to include all 48 states in the continental United States. Bill also had a strong interest in current events and enjoyed reading newspapers and watching television news programs. One of Bill's greatest joys was being a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brush, where he enjoyed attending Mass and helping with the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his son, Timothy Walkup of Brush; his daughter Sheila (Mitch) Bostrom of Brush, their children Cole (Hannah), Brett, and Hunter; his son David (Liz) Walkup, their children Easten, Jordan, and Kaiya; brothers Wayne of Arizona, and Dave of Oregon; sisters Wanna of Arizona, Anita of Oregon, Sharlene of California and Shirline of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; his parents, Benjamin and Martha; two brothers, Ben and Danny; and his sister, Ethel. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 18 at Heer Mortuary in Brush. Rosary prayer service will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brush, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. A military burial service will be held at Brush Memorial Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to the Knights of Columbus c/o St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brush.
