Wilma Irene (Evans) Dixon, 94, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on September 21, 2016 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, CO.

Wilma was born on September 9, 1922 in rural Veale Township, Daviess County, IN. She was the ninth of twelve children born to William Albert and Martha Margaret (Russell) Evans. They resided on the family farm south of Washington. Wilma attended Veale Township Schools through eighth grade and then Washington High School in Washington, IN.

On August 31, 1940, Wilma married George Leo Dixon in Washington. For the next twenty years the couple made their home in the Washington and Petersburg area. Their first two children, Rodney and Beverly, were born before Leo enlisted in the U S Navy and served in World War II as a deckhand on an aircraft carrier. After the first two children married and left home, in 1960, they left for Colorado with the two younger children, Michael and Dinah. Leo found employment with Climax Molybdenum Company and they made their home in Buena Vista, CO, where the youngest, Mark, joined the family. In 1982, Wilma and Leo moved to eastern Colorado, first to a small acreage in Woodrow, and shortly thereafter to Morgan County.

Wilma was a homemaker. She spent her spare time doing some gardening, particularly with flowers; reading and studying the Bible and traveling weekends with her family to see the beautiful state of Colorado and before that, her beloved Hoosier State of Indiana. She especially enjoyed time with her family and friends. She may be remembered most for the poetry that she loved to cite, which she learned in her childhood (most of which came from Hoosier Poet, James Whitcomb Riley) and often humming or singing her favorite Christian hymns. Wilma was a member of the Brush Church of the Nazarene for many years.

After 58 years of marriage, George Leo passed away in 1998. Wilma was also preceded in death by her first grandson, David Lynn; four sisters, Alma, Clara, Lillian, and Ruth; all six brothers, Giles (Bud), Floyd, William, Clarence (Buck), Roy (Pete), and Delmar (Barney).

She is survived by one sister, Margie Bateman of Washington, IN; two sisters-in-law, Chiraporn (wife of Bill) Evans of Indianapolis, IN and Dorothy (wife of Cleo) Dixon of Muncie, IN; three sons: Rodney (Karen) Dixon of Winslow, IN; Michael (Janice) Dixon of Brush, CO; and Mark (Jennifer) Dixon of Buena Vista, CO; two daughters: Beverly Schroeer and her husband, Jim Erickson of Lake Havasu City, AZ; and Dinah (Steve) Walton of Ft. Collins, CO. She also leaves six grandchildren, Tonda Dixon, Debra (Kim) Weisheit, Rodney (aka Chip) (Savannah) Dixon of Winslow, IN; Daniel Lynn of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Claire Dixon and her husband, Kevin Bowles of Denver, CO and Lena Norris of Littleton, CO. Additionally eight great-grandchildren: Christopher Potts, Bridget Hargus, Deidra Braun, Cailen Dixon, Corbin Dixon, Austin Dixon, David Dixon and Gunther Norris plus one great-great-grandchild, Landry Braun, and many nieces and nephews.

Per her request, the only service will be graveside. The service and internment will take place at the Twin Oaks Church Cemetery in rural Petersburg, IN, Monday, September 26, at 11:00 AM, next to the love of her life, Leo, who awaits her. Arrangements are through Heer Mortuary of Brush, CO and Curtis Funeral Home of Winslow, IN.
